Coloniatecne: Parametric Architecture and Interactive Lighting Installation
Coloniatecne is an experimental installation that combines parametric design, digital fabrication and interactive lighting into a single spatial experience. The project explores how architecture can respond to human presence through the interaction of form, light and movement.
The structure is composed of a sequence of digitally generated timber ribs that create a continuous tunnel-like space. While the geometry establishes the physical framework, the lighting system transforms the installation into a dynamic environment that changes according to visitor activity.
Rather than treating lighting as a purely decorative element, the project integrates illumination into the architectural concept itself. The resulting space becomes both a structure and an interface, encouraging visitors to engage with their surroundings through movement and perception.
Projects such as Coloniatecne reflect a broader shift in contemporary design toward responsive environments, where architecture is no longer conceived as a static object but as an active participant in human experience. Combining computational design methods with interactive technologies, the installation demonstrates how digital tools can expand the relationship between people and space.
More than a decade later, many of these ideas continue to influence interactive architecture, immersive environments, XR experiences and spatial computing.
